Summary: Written for a friend. Every 30 years
the Wild Hunt travels through Albion in search of the greatest, most powerful warriors to claim as it’s own. Rumors had said that once Uther himself faced down the Hunt- and now the time for them has come again and now Uther must enlist the help of a hated foe or risk becoming one of the riders.
The legend was as old as the dragons; whispered from father to son, brother to sister as a nightmare; meant to scare children into bed and away from the forests during Solstice. Every thirty years the Wild Hunt came; riders that had once been human and kidnapped by the Faerie would ride through Albion and pluck from their horses the most fearsome of warriors, the most beautiful of lads. Occasionally, it was said that the Chief Hunter- the horned one would challenge a Knight to battle and if the Knight won, he could take command of the Hunt but if he lost…
What happened to the souls of those unlucky humans depended a great deal on if it was Druid, Knight or commoner who told the story. Some said the boys were given to Hell, as part of the Fair folk’s tithe while others claimed they were damned to ride with the Hunters until the end of time. Still some said they were simply food for the Riders’ dogs.
( It was said early on when Uther first came to Camelot... )
